Keeping figures in the family
Father and daughter team Steve Brown and TJ Sutherland launched their Rosemary Bookkeeping Franchise in Newbury in late 2010. Since their launch they have been building a great client base of small businesses, providing bookkeeping services and establishing themselves in their area.
Steve and TJ decided to buy into the well-established Rosemary Bookkeeping franchise with a hope to bring an altogether friendly and new bookkeeping experience to Newbury, by utilising the unique Rosemary System® and taking the hassle away from the business owner of doing the bookkeeping. They have successfully built excellent working relationships with local accountants to support their clients.
Steve and TJ explain "Our franchise has really taken off now and we love being a part of the Rosemary Bookkeeping team. We offer a new approach to bookkeeping, being both friendly and straightforward for small businesses - it's a service that is so desperately needed by so many businesses."
With the national press reporting that the Government are looking to fine up to £5,000 to SMEs who don't have their books in good order, small businesses now realise that they need to keep their books up to date. This has made an excellent talking point for TJ and Steve when attending their local networking events.
"While we talk about the possible fines we don't want to scare people too much, we'd much rather support them with our services. Although my opening line is often ‘I'm part of a Father and Daughter team, and I'm the daughter'," jokes TJ!
Unlike other bookkeepers, Rosemary Bookkeeping only charge for each transaction processed and not for the time spent. Starting at only 17p a transaction, outsourcing your bookkeeping isn't as expensive as you may think. They also provide a detailed analysis with every invoice so you always know what you are paying for and just to be really helpful, they even standardise the paperwork to ensure you and your accountant receive it in the same way. If you hate preparing your VAT return and could be making more money if you were not doing your books then outsourcing your bookkeeping is essential.
TJ and Steve have been trained in all aspects of the Rosemary Bookkeeping system. "It was a little daunting to begin with, but now we are flying! If we need help we just pick up the phone to the head office Rosemary team, that's the beauty of being in a franchise. We run our business from our home offices too so that has helped to keep our start-up costs low. I have to say though, I am really enjoying working with my daughter and we make a great team," adds Steve.
TJ and Steve regularly attend Rosemary Bookkeeping Discovery Days where people considering the franchise spend a day learning more about the opportunity and talk to them over lunch about how they have successfully established their franchise in their region.
